The owner’s criteria required that the building structure be designed with strict vibration control criteria. This required the structural elements be considerably larger than normal. Also, the University would not allow architectural exposed cast-in-place concrete out of concern for quality control.
In order to maintain the dimensions desired by the Architect, the beams and columns were too large to fit into a conventional installed precast concrete façade system due to the space required for connections and tolerance.
