Designing Beauty Within Budget -- Unique Convention Center Achieves Worldwide Acclaim

Taking advantage of a prominent location with high visibility, the city of Irving, Texas chose the heart of its Las Colinas community for its unconventional convention center. The building architect, RMJM North America, envisioned a striking, stacked and rotated design to create an iconic architectural expression. Datum was brought on as a partner to ensure structural success. We were challenged to preserve the architect's unique and complicated design without sacrificing functionality or building performance, all while working toward a very aggressive opening date.

It's a structure unlike anything in the convention center industry

and not seen anywhere else in this part of the country - a facility that encourages people’s interaction with space

Rick Bidne President and CEO of the Las Colinas Association, as quoted in Las Colinas Online
