23,000 sq. ft. addition above an existing roof and 45,000 sq. ft. renovation with upgrade to the existing structure.
The first phase of campus improvements at the historic Austin High School included a vertical expansion above the roof of the existing one-story wing of the building for dance gymnasiums and locker rooms, reconfiguring the existing practice and competition gymnasiums and light renovation of several more areas of the building. The vertical addition required evaluation and reinforcement of the existing concrete roof framing for increased live loads. For vertical circulation to the expansion, a stair tower was added at the front of the building and an egress stair platform was added in the rear of the building. The gymnasium reconfiguration also required reinforcements to the existing concrete floor framing for new loads from retractable bleachers and new storage rooms.
O’Connell Robertson served as the architect for the project, and Datum Rios provided structural engineering.
